ORU Awards $29,325 to Local Organizations

LREC’s Operation Round Up program gives back to vital organizations doing good in our backyard and across the state. Funds were recently granted to 12 local organizations. A total of $29,325 was awarded by the Operation Round Up Board of Trustees at the July 15th, 2024 meeting. The funds were distributed as follows:

  • $3,000 to the City of Battle Lake for new pickleball courts
  • $5,000 to the Becker County Historical Society and Museum for a pollinator and eagle education garden
  • $750 to the Dent Diamondhawks Amateur Baseball Team for equipment, uniforms, league dues, and umpire fees
  • $3,000 to the Building a Legacy Education Foundation to purchase new books for students
  • $2,000 to Henning HOPE to purchase winter wear and stocking stuffers for those in need
  • $3,000 to the Friends of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge to install sound absorbing panels in the Discovery Center
  • $600 to the Tordenskjold Free Mission Cemetery Association to help with perpetual care of cemetery
  • $750 to the Faith Lutheran Church-Quilters to purchase quilting materials
  • $1,000 to the Wild Rice Peacemakers for events supporting local youth
  • $2,225 to the Pelican Rapids Living at Home Block Nurse Program to reimburse volunteers providing transportation to the elderly
  • $3,000 to the Friends of Phelps for supplies to assist with educational tours for students at Phelps Mill
  • $5,000 to the Patriot Assistance Dogs for updating rooms in residence hall used when veterans are being matched with their service dog
ORU recently awarded MnFIRE a grant for a new Crisis Response Fund.
Since 2007, Operation Round Up has awarded $742,025. Funding for ORU stems from LREC members rounding up to the nearest dollar on their electric bills each month. If you would like to participate in ORU, please visit www.lrec.coop/oru.
